HOMEMADE FLU BOMB - FULL RECIPE, INGREDIENTS, EQUIPMENT, DIRECTIONS & BENEFITS.
INGREDIENTS
Oranges x10 quartered and peeled (I used organic oranges from our local choices market about 12 oranges for $10.00).
Lemons x6 quartered and peeled (I used organic lemons from our local choices market about 8 lemons for $8.00).
Garlic 1/4 cup (I bought an organic Head of garlic form our local choices market, about double the cost of non organic but only needed one head so not too bad).
Ginger 1/2 cup (Costco sells a decent size bag of organic ginger at least twice a year and when i see it I grab it, wash it and flash freeze it for future recipes, its about $10.00/bag).
Turmeric 2 tsp
Cayenne pepper 2 tsp
Black pepper 1tsp
(all organic spices can be sourced at any local supermarket, price varies depending on the store).
Distilled water approx. 24 oz
Honey 1/4 cup (organic brand sold at Costco is only $10.00)
EQUIPMENT
Large glass measuring jar with spout
Mesh strainer
Cheese cloth
Blender (Ninja)
Measuring cups
Whisk
Spatula
Funnel
Containers to store finished product in
DIRECTIONS
Start by sanitizing the containers you plan to store your finished product in.
Cut all oranges & lemons into quarters and then peel.
Add all ingredients into the blender (except the honey that will be whisked in at the end).
Blend on a smoothie setting so that the blender pulses and fully blends all the ingredients (generally takes about 3-4 minutes).
Place the metal mesh strainer into the large glass measuring cup and line the strainer with 2 layers of cheese cloth (line the cheese cloth in opposite directions).
Pour the blended mixture into the cheese cloth lined strainer and allow to sit to strain on its own for about 15 minutes.
Next pull all corners of the cheese cloth up and twist the top so no pulp comes out, start pressing and squeezing the ball of cheese cloth to get out all the flu bomb juice, (slow steady pulses help prevent the pulp from escaping).
remove the mesh strainer and pulp and add your honey into your flu bomb juice, whisk until fully combined about 1 min.
Open your jars to pour your mixture into.
Use a funnel and pour the product into your containers then cap and label your containers, don't forget to date them.
How to store and how long will it last?
In this recipe I use distilled water so it keeps longer. If stored in an air tight jar in the fridge it can last 3-4 weeks.
If you do the traditional canning method or the vacuum sealing method you can extend the shelf life to 12-18 months and it doesn’t have to be store in the fridge until the seal has been opened.
