Watch our Video Blog Post in our link below (on our YouTube Channel) on “How to Make Oil of Oregano- Medicinal oil” and read more in our Blog for the complete step-by-step process as well as additional information about the benefits of the ingredients.
Depending on the completion method you choose the entire process for completion can be either 4-6 Hours (Oven Method), 2 weeks (Sun Steeping) or 6-8 weeks (Store in Cool, Dark, Dry Place)
***Our Directions below also include the “Oven Method” which only takes 4-6 hrs. to completion and requires a large glass pan instead of a large glass jar (the Oven Method isn't included in our video).
Oil or Oregano Recipe
This recipe makes approximately 8 x 4 oz Glass containers.
Equipment Needed
· Large glass mason jar 56 oz
· Large stainless steel or glass bowl, a second bowl to allow the remainder of oil to strain out (watch video for example).
· Mesh Stainless Steel Strainer
· Large glass measuring cup with a pouring spout
· Silicone spatula
· Cheese cloth
· Stainless steel butter knife (for stirring in the jar to allow the oil to surround all the herbs).
· Storing jars- you can use ½ pint canning jars (pick up from a local save-on Foods), ***Preferably store in dark amber glass jars (amazon usually sells a ton of varieties of amber glass jars for a reasonable price point)
· Examination gloves (to wear when straining your product).
· Optional- wide mouth funnel, to make pouring herbs into the glass jar easier.
Ingredients Needed
· 1.5 litre's Organic Cold Pressed Olive Oil (I use “Terra Delyssa “, purchased from Costco 2 x 1 Litre bottles for $29.99).
· Approx. 7 cups-Dried Organic Oregano leaves (not Powdered)
Directions- Mason jar Method for Sun Steeping or Storing in Cool Dry Place.
***Make sure to Sanitize your Mason Jar before starting!!
***Boil the cap and rings in water for 5-10 minutes, and place your glass mason jar in the oven, turn temp to 250 degrees and once it hits temp set your timer for 20 minutes.
***Once done use some oven mitt's to pull out your jar and let it cool down, once cooled start your recipe.
1. Gather all equipment and materials, if doing sun steeping or just jar completion in cool dry place use the 56 oz mason Jar, if doing the oven method than you will need 1 or 2 x deep, large glass Pyrex pans 9x13”.
2. Place the wide mouth funnel in the large glass mason jar and pour the organic oregano into the jar.
3. Pour in the organic cold pressed extra virgin olive oil into the jar, after the first bottle has been poured in ensure to mix the contents with the butter knife so that the oil fully surrounds all the herbs.
4. Pour in the remainder of the organic cold pressed extra virgin olive oil, and fill until about 1” from the top of the jar, mix again with the butter knife, and put on the cap and ring and date it so you know when you need to strain it.
5. Choose your completion Method.
Completion Method- Sun Steeping- 2-week process
1. Place your Jar in a window that gets sunlight, preferably an average temperature of at least 75-80 degrees Fahrenheit is best.
2. Shake it daily and keep an eye out for precipitate (if it looks murky on the bottom that usually is an indication of water precipitation, and you can use a turkey baster to draw it out). Or another method to remove it, is to simply pour the contents of the jar into a saucepan and gently heat it for 5 minutes and then pour it back into the jar to continue sun steeping.
3. After 2 weeks continue onto the “Straining & Jarring Steps”.
Completion Method-Store in Cool, Dark, Dry Place- 6–8-week process
1. Place your Jar in a cool, dark & dry place (preferably a basement if available or cool room).
2. Shake the jar or flip it over daily, ( because it is not sun steeping you do not need to worry about water precipitate).
3. After 6-8 weeks, continue onto the “Straining & Jarring Steps”.
Oven Method- 4 to 6 Hour process
1. If you are doing the Oven Method than you would place your dried herbs in the Large/Deep Glass Pyrex pan and fill with olive oil about 1-2 inches over the herbs (will need 2 Pyrex pans for this recipe).
2. Place the pans in the oven and bake at 170-200 degrees Fahrenheit for 4-6 hours.
3. Allow to cool and then continue onto the “Straining & Jarring Steps”.
Straining & Jarring Steps
1. Once your recipe has reached completion (based on the method you chose) you are now ready to strain and jar your Medicinal Oil. Place out 2 large bowls (stainless steel or glass), put the mesh strainer in one bowl and line the mesh strainer with your cheese cloth (watch the video for reference).
2. Pour the entire contents into the cheese cloth lined mesh strainer (apparently I didn't record this portion if the video but you get the idea).
3. Once all the product is in the cheese cloth, put your gloves on and press down the herbs, then lift up each corner of the cheese cloth and twist closed so no herbs will fall out (watch the video for reference), and continue to strain out the medicinal oils by twisting and squeezing the cheese cloth.
4. When you have squeezed as much as you can place the cheese cloth ball back in the strainer (with the twisted corners facing up to the ceiling so the herbs won't fall out) and place the strainer into the second large bowl, this will allow any remaining medicinal oil to strain out so you can capture all of your product and not waste any.
5. Now pour the medicinal oil into the large glass measuring cup that has a pouring spout.
6. Line up your storage containers of choice and place a narrow funnel into the first storage container.
7. Start to pour your oil into the funneled jar (watching closely so you don’t overfill) I recommend slightly lifting the funnel, so it allows air to escape, and the oil pours more easily into the jar (if it’s a narrow neck storage jar).
8. Once completed move onto the next jar and continue, cap each jar once filled to prevent accidentally losing product if you knock it over.
9. When you are done you can either print or just simply write on a sticker label what the medicinal oil is, when it was jarred, serving size and how to take it.
And Viola Look at you killing it making your own Medicinal Oil!!!

Organic Cold pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil, when choosing your olive oil, you want to ensure to choose an extra virgin Cold pressed olive oil minimally refined and that is single sourced!!
There are more olive oils on the shelves in stores than there are olive trees in the world, what this means is that a lot of olive oils out there are actually a blend of olive oil and other seed oils that are not good for you so make sure to read the labels and know what you are buying.
I chose Terra Delyssa Organic Cold pressed Olive oil because it is a singe sourced olive oil and all natural. It is not blended with other oils from other countries or mixed with any additives or preservatives. It is made with 100% Tunisian olives, and it is produced in its own facility used only to pack olives and therefore there is no risk of cross contamination.
Healing Benefits of Olive oil
Extra Virgin Cold Pressed olive oil is the least processed version and reigns supreme.
EVOO is full of antioxidants and heart-healthy fats, making it a staple in the Mediterranean, which is widely regarded as one of the healthiest styles of eating.
The olive was thought to of been first cultivated in Crete 3500 BCE and the tree itself has many symbolic associations. Olive oil is nourishing and can help improve the balance of fats within the blood.
Olive oil also contains mostly monosaturated fat which is a type of unsaturated fat that has been linked to benefits like, protecting against inflammation, lowering LDL (bad cholesterol), reducing blood pressure & may help lower your risk of heart disease.
EVOO contains more than 20 types of polyphenols which is a category of plant-based chemical compounds that help protect your heart and reduce inflammation throughout your body. Polyphenols are a type of antioxidant.
The job of Antioxidants is to fight unstable molecules in your body called free radicals. If left unchecked, free radicals cause oxidative stress, which can lead to increased signs of aging and the development of chronic diseases. Think of Antioxidants like a shield around your cells that protect them from oxidative damage.
One of the main antioxidants in virgin and extra virgin olive oil is oleocanthal, which has such powerful anti-inflammatory properties that it has been compared to ibuprofen. Oleic acid has also been shown to reduce inflammation.
Healing Benefits of Oregano- Wild Marjoram
Oregano was esteemed by the ancient Greeks and was considered a cure-all in medieval times ; it was also one of the medicinal plants cultivated by New England Settlers.
Oregano (Origanum vulgare) is a robust herb with a pungent aroma and many health benefits, including anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. It is available dry, fresh, or extracted as oil.
Oregano contains a volatile oil, part of the constituents of that oil are Carvacrol & Thymol which are both anti-fungal and anti-bacterial and may assist in reducing or preventing the growth or spread of bacteria, fungi, parasites, and some viruses.
Oregano and its oil are strongly anti-sceptic with potent activity against many bacteria and fungi, it is a powerful disinfectant herb that can effectively fight bacterial and viral infections, and it can aid many acute and chronic infections affecting the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts including ailments such as gastroenteritis, dysentery, bronchitis, coughs & tonsilitis. Both herbs and oil inhibit the Gut Flora (bacteria naturally occurring within the gut) and have an important role to play in gut dysbiosis, a condition where the presence of harmful gut bacteria leads to symptoms like gas, bloating, and abdominal discomfort.
