A member of the nightshade family (which also includes tomatoes), Ashwagandha is a hardy shrub with oval leaves, yellow flowers, and red berries. It is traditionally cultivated in dry regions of India and surrounding areas and is also grown in more temperate climates.
USES: As a tea steep 1/2 tsp into 1 cup hot water, or add 1/2 tsp to a smoothie or juice.
Ashwagandha root (cut and sifted) is typically steeped into herbal teas or used in decoctions. It may also be ground into powder for use in herbal blends or mixed into foods and beverages.
